WIAA State Football Finals Preview: Division 5

The 41st Annual WIAA Football State Championship Finals will be held Thursday and Friday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Here's a preview of the Division 5 game....

LAST YEAR: Amherst blanked Spencer/Columbus 42-0 to win the Division 5 title.

Thursday, Nov. 17
Div. 5 - Amherst (12-1) vs. Cedar Grove-Belgium (12-1) - 4 p.m

DIVISION 5 NOTES: Defending champion Amherst will make its fourth appearance in the title game, having now advanced to the title game in four of the last five seasons. The Falcons also won the title in their first experience in the State final in 2012, and finished runner-up in 2014. They downed Stanley-Boyd 42-15 in their Level 4 match-up to return to the final for an opportunity to win back-to-back gold trophies. They are the champions of the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference this fall. The Falcons scored fewer than 40 points only three times this season. Those were the first three games of the season. Cedar Grove-Belgium returns to Camp Randall for the second time. The Rockets finished runner-up in Division 5 in its only other appearance in 2008. This year, they placed third in the Big East Conference and outscored Clinton 42-35 in their Level 4 match-up to advance to the final. The Rockets have averaged 41.6 points a game this season. After posting a shutout in their Level 1 game, they have surrendered an average of 34.3 over the last three playoff victories, while scoring 40.0 points a game.

ON THE AIR: The championship finals will be televised live on either Fox Sports Wisconsin or Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus. The Divisions 7, 6, 3, 2 and 1 finals will be aired live on Fox Sports Wisconsin. The Divisions 4 and 5 championships will be aired on Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus.
