WIAA State Football Finals Preview: Division 7

The 41st Annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Football State Championship Finals will be held this Thursday and Friday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Here's a preview of the Division 7 game...

LAST YEAR: Bangor was crowned the champion in Division 7 with a 20-14 victory over Pepin/Alma.

Thursday, Nov. 17
Div. 7 - Edgar (10-3) vs. Shullsburg (11-2) - 10 a.m.

DIVISION 7 NOTES: Edgar will play in the State title game for the 11th time. The Wildcats appeared in a string of four title games from 1998-2001 and three in a row from 2008-10. They possess six State titles, winning Division 6 in 2009 and 2010, Division 5 championships in 1992, 1999 and 2001; and a Division 4 crown in 1979. In addition, the Wildcats have runner-up finishes in 1991, 1998, 2000 and 2008. They were the fourth-place finisher in the Marawood Conference, and they defeated defending champion Bangor 29-6 at Level 4 to earn the chance at their seventh title. The Wildcats have outscored opponents 36.5-6.8 during the playoffs. Shullsburg has advanced to the State finals for the first time. The Miners rolled past Hilbert/Stockbridge in their Level 4 showdown, 34-6. They finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Six Rivers Conference standings this season. The Miners have allowed opponents an average of 6.3 points a game during the playoffs.

ON THE AIR: The championship finals will be televised live on either Fox Sports Wisconsin or Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus. The Divisions 7, 6, 3, 2 and 1 finals will be aired live on Fox Sports Wisconsin. The Divisions 4 and 5 championships will be aired on Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus.
