Auburndale's Jordan Zimmermann Retiring From Baseball
Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 -- 10:17 AM
Auburndale native, Jordan Zimmermann is retiring from Major League Baseball.
Zimmermann, who attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, was a second-round draft pick by the Washington Nationals in 2007. He made a pair of All-Star teams with the Nationals, he pitched a no-hitter in 2014, twice garnered National League Cy Young Award votes and once led the NL in wins before struggling to shoulder the expectations of a $110 million contract with Detroit.
He signed a Minor League deal with the Brewers in February to attempt a comeback, but pitched only twice in relief before hanging up his spikes for good.
Zimmermann’s announcement came 12 days shy of his 35th birthday.
