Neillsville Downs Greenwood In ECC Baseball

The Neillsville baseball team stayed unbeaten in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference after a 7-1 win over Greenwood on Friday.
The game was a tight matchup throughout until the 7th inning.
Neillsville got on the board first on an RBI ground out from Sam Hayes in the second inning. Greenwood would get on the board in the 3rd inning when Austen Humke walked and then advanced to third on an overthrow after a pick off attempt. The throw to third then went over the fence and out of play to allow Humke to score.
The score remained tied until the top of the 7th when the Warriors scored 6 times on 4 walks by Greenwood pitchers and an RBI double from Carson Opelt.
Neillsville's starting pitcher, Braden Trunkel, went 6 2/3, giving up just 1 hit while striking out 12 and walking 2. Carson Opelt came on the 7th to get the final out.
Cooper Bredlau pitched 6 1/3 for Greenwood but only gave up 1 of the runs. Sully Whitford and Xander Hinker pitched in the 7th inning and were responsible for the 6 runs in the inning.
Andrew Brown and Opelt each had 2 hits for Neillsville.
Neillsville improved to 3-0 in the ECC and 3-1 overall, Greenwood fell to 2-1 in the conference and 3-3 overall.
