Frahm To Compete In State High School Powerlifting Meet

Thursday, February 25th, 2016 -- 4:04 PM

Wylie Frahm, a senior at Edgar High School, will be competing in 2016 State High School Powerlifting Meet at LaCrosse Central High School on March 12th.

Frahm, a starting running back and defensive tackle on the Edgar football team this fall, will be competing in the 198 pound division. He will have three tries each at the bench press, squat and deadlift to lift the most weight he can. Wylie said his best current bench press is 340 lbs. The state record is 355 lbs. and at the State Powerlifting meet Wylie said he is going to try to break the record! He is going to try for 360 lbs! His best squat is 525 lbs. and his top deadlift is 485 lbs.

Wylie said he got into powerlifting because it's fun and it makes you drive to do more. His coach, David Rock of Stratford is a powerlifter as well and he saw some video of Wylie on Facebook and decided to be his coach. Rock participated in the World Powerlifting Championships last September in Las Vegas and will be competing in Kentucky this year.

Wylie's training program was designed by Kevin Grap of Neillsville, who also helped train Rock for the Worlds. Frahm said his training to get ready for the State Powerlifting Meet includes lifting Monday, Wednesday and Friday for about an hour and half per day.

Athletes from around the state will be competing along with Wylie at the High School State Powerlifting. Again it's on March 12th at LaCrosse Central High School.
