Neillsville Girls Down Colby

Friday, December 11th, 2015 -- 11:10 PM

The Neillsville girls basketball team won their 3rd straight Eastern Cloverbelt game, beating Colby 49-32 on Friday night.

The Warriors got off to a hot start from outside as they connected on eight 3-pointers in the first half and led 26-11 going into the locker room. Lexi Opelt and Kayla Lis each had three of them.

In the second half, Colby came out with the hot hand, especially freshman Ashley Streveler who scored 8 quick points and the Hornets got to within 5 points, but Neillsville defense made several stops and converted on turnovers to pull away with the 17 point win.

Lis and Mindy Schoengarth each had 13 points to lead the Warriors (4-2, 3-1). Opelt added 11.

Haylee Geiger led Colby (3-3,3-2) with 12 points. Their leading scorer, Samatha Hayes, came in averaging around 17 a game, but was held scoreless.

Neillsville will host Altoona on Monday night at The Fieldhouse.
