Opelt Finishes 1-2 At Iowa Duals

Cornell College's 19th-ranked wrestling team scored a convincing 32-9 victory over defending NJCAA national champion Iowa Central and then fell to a pair of NCAA Division I opponents at Saturday's University of Iowa Duals in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.The Rams dropped a 28-6 decision in the second dual to Grand Canyon. They ended the day with a 58-0 setback to the second-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes.
Cornell's seventh-ranked Phillip Opelt, of Neillsville recorded a 12-3 major decision at 133 against Iowa Central. Opelt lost 4-2 in the first overtime in his match against Grand Canyon. In his match vs. Iowa, Opelt was pinned by 2nd ranked Cory Clark. In fact Iowa recorded 9 pins in the 10 matches.
The Rams return to competition Wednesday, Dec. 2, for a 7 p.m. dual meet against eighth-ranked Luther in Decorah.
