Wednesday, May 20th, 2015 -- 10:36 AM

A two out, bloop 2 RBI single in the bottom of the 7th by Hunter Luepke lifted the Spencer Rockets to a 6-5 win over previously unbeaten Neillsville on Tuesday in Eastern Cloverbelt Conference baseball at Spencer.

The Rockets got on the scoreboard first in the first inning on an RBI single from Jonny Tomke. They then scored 3 runs in the 3rd with Jake Meyers getting 2 RBI's on a double.

Neillsville started their comeback with 2 runs in the 4th on a 2 RBI single from Jason Kurth. The Warriors then got 2 more runs in the 6th to tie the game at 4. In that inning, Nate McDonald attempted to steal home with two outs but was thrown out on a close play to end the inning.

In the 7th, Neillsville got an RBI single from Neal Matson to score his brother Nolan, who was safe at home on another close play. That gave the Warriors a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom of 7th, Spencer was able to load the bases thanks to a single by Bobby Pilz, Tomke reached on an error and Meyers was hit by a pitch. With one out, Hunter Hildebrandt popped out to Matson at short for the second out. Then Luepke hit a shallow fly ball to left field that Neillsville's Nathan Peterson made a diving effort to try and catch, but he couldn't quite squeeze it and 2 runs scored for the Spencer win.

Bobby Pilz went the distance for the win for Spencer allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, striking out none and walking four. Tomke finished 2 for 3 from the plate, Pilz finished 1 for 2 with 3 runs scored.

Sam Neville took the loss for Neillsville going the distance, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2. The Warriors also committed 4 errors in the game.
