Stratford Tournament To Help Stratford Family

The Stratford High School baseball team is joining in on the support for a family of eight children after their father died in a freak car crash.According to the Marathon County Sheriff's Department, Michael Rogan, a Stratford-area father of eight, was killed April 17 in a crash on Highway 97 in the town of Cleveland when a deer that was hit by another vehicle flew into the windshield of his vehicle; he had been driving his wife to the hospital to deliver their eighth child. Rogan later died of his injuries at a hospital.
An account on GoFundMe.com to raise money for the family has now exceeded $450,000 and the family's goal of $500,000 is within reach.
This Saturday Stratford is going to pitch in to help that effort when it hosts a three-team round robin baseball tournament at the high school. Game times will be at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Neillsville and Rosholt along with Stratford are involved in the tournament.
The same three teams raised money for the Kurtzweil family a year ago when Treyden Kurtzweil died shortly after his first birthday after a battle with leukemia.
Stratford head coach, Brad Grube said there will be 50-50 raffle throughout the day of the tournament and five or six raffle prizes. The school also is having a penny war fundraiser, with the winning class announced during the last game of the tournament.
Grube also said that a youth baseball tournament will be going on as well at the softball diamond across the road.
