Neillsville Tops Pittsville In Season Opener

The Neillsville baseball team opened up the 2015 season with a 6-2 win over the Pittsville Panthers on Thursday evening.

Pittsville got on the board first on a throwing error by catcher Nolan Matson that allowed Nathan Dupee to score from 3rd on a stolen base attempt.

Neillsville came right back in the bottom of the inning to score 3 runs on 4 hits led by Neal and Nolan Matson who each had a double and a run scored.

Neither team would score until Pittsville got on the board with a run in the 4th to make the score 3-2.

In Neillsville's half of the sixth they had to runners reach on walks, and a single by Jason Kurth and an 2 RBI double by David Harder to make the score 6-2.

Sam Neville then put down the Panthers 1-2-3 in the 7th inning.

Neal Matson started on the mound for Neillsville going 3 1/3 giving up 2 runs on 0 hits while striking out 6 and walking 5. Sam Neville pitched the rest of the way, going 3 2/3 allowing no runs on 1 hit while striking out 4 and walking none.

Paul Downs went 4 innings for the Panthers giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, striking out 6 and walking 2. Jacob Schulz came on the 5th and pitched into the 6th before giving way to Kody Kauth who got the Panthers out of the inning.

Neville and Kurth finished 2 for 3 from the plate and Harder finished 1 for 2 with a couple of RBI's.

Neillsville will be at Osseo-Fairchild next Thursday.
