Neillsville Booster Club Girls Youth Basketball Tourney Results

The Neillsville Booster Club held their annual Girl's Youth Basketball Tournament on Sunday, March 8th. Thirty-two, 5th through 8th grade teams from around Central Wisconsin competed in the tournament.

Placing first in the 5th grade division was a squad representing Osseo Fairchild as they edged Neillsville White for the gold medals. Members of the local team who was coached by Tim Voigt included: Kara Oldham, McKenzie Keller, Kati Mayer, Courtney Oldham, Rylie Courtney, Amelia Trunkel, Delaney Rochester, Avery McFarlane and Miranda Mijal. In the third place game Wisconsin Rapids Assumption snuck by the Neillsville Red team by a 21-20 score. Members of the young Warrior squad who were coached by Ron Trunkel included: Amanda Schneider, Eva Mortenson, Skylar Hart, Emma Moseley, Kylie Boyer, Heaven Hainz, Jayden Bymers, Lainey Horn & Callie Mohr. In the contest for the consolation champ Marshfield dumped Loyal. Rounding out the standings were Immanuel Lutheran of Wisconsin Rapids, Auburndale, Greenwood and Marshfield 4th Grade.

In the sixth grade division, the homestanding Neillsville Warriors were the cream of the tournament as they bested Wisconsin Rapids Assumption for the gold medals. Members of the Red & White who are coached by Missy Stockheimer, Sunni Opelt and Taylor Gleisner included: Terren Stockheimer, Bella Opelt, Ariana Rochester, Jaden Barth, Taylor Boon, Aubrey Anderson, Libney Castillo, Emily Hanson, Kayla Ratsch, Emma Vance, Katelyn Zimmerman, Sarah Hahn and Jada Harris. The bronze medals were secured by Loyal with Prentice, Thorp and Greenwood rounding out the bracket.

In the 7th grade division Osseo-Fairchild reigned as champion with a victory over Fall Creek/Augusta in the final game. Marshfield claimed the bronze medals by defeating the home team by a 10 point margin. Members of the local team who are coached by Jena Ehlen included: Kaia & Ellie Moseid, Alli Schoengarth, Bianca Fischer, Catrina Craig, Parker Millard, Olivia Friemoth, Kaitlin Thoma, Riley Voigt and Kayla Oldham. Capturing the consolation championship was St. Mary's of Marathon with Granton, Greenwood and Loyal placing 6th-8th respectively.

In the older, 8th grade bracket Alma Center claimed the championship as they slipped by Neillsville. Members of the silver medal winning squad who were coached by Jamie Kuhn and Dave McDonald included: Bailey Schumacher, Kelly Barth, Sami Kuhn, Madelyn Koprek, Samantha Cappadora, Katie Kunze, Maggie McDonald, Vanessa Zickert and Madelyn Chadwick. Grabbing third place honors was Osseo-Fairchild with Wisconsin Rapids Assumption finishing in fourth. Marshfield picked up the Consolation Championship with Greenwood, Loyal and Thorp completing the standings.

In the daylong competition, fifty games were contested.

The Booster Club would like to thank the many volunteers who helped officiate, scorekeep, take tickets or work the concession stand.

All proceeds are used to support youth sports at Neillsville schools.
