Warriors Win Battle With Hawks

The Neillsville boys basketball team fought back to beat Owen-Withee on Monday night 53-51 to end their Cloverbelt season 13-3.Jake Kunze proved to be the hero of the game as his lay-up with just over 5 seconds left was the difference in the game. Kunze finished with a team high 11 points.
Owen-Withee lead after one half 19-15. In the third quarter, both teams heated up as Neillsville outscored the Hawks 23-21, led by Sam Neville who scored all 11 of his points in the quarter.
Neillsville edged Owen-Withee in the fourth quarter 15-11 to get the 2 point win.
Owen-Withee shot just under 48% from the field compared to 40% for Neillsville. Rebounds were even at 28 apiece and Owen-Withee turned the ball over 12 times compared to 8 for the Warriors.
The Hawks went to the freethrow line just 4 times, making 1 while Neillsville was 8 for 11 led by Kunze's 5 for 6.
Neal Matson had 10 points to go along with Kunze and Neville's 11 for Neillsville, while John Schmelzer had 11 to lead Owen-Withee.
Neillsville won their 7th in a row and they improve to 15-6 overall while Owen-Withee finishes the ECC season at 9-7 and they fall to 11-10 overall.
