Fall Creek And Regis Win 1st & 2nd Place Playoffs

Fall Creek is the 2015 Cloverbelt Girls Basketball Champions after beating Loyal on Saturday night 53-47, while Eau Claire Regis beat Neillsville in the 2nd Place game 35-26.

Fall Creek was hot in the first quarter as they led 21-10, Shayna Hohlfelder had 7 points to lead the Crickets.

The second quarter was all Loyal, playing in their first ever Cloverbelt Championship, as they outscored the Crickets 17-3, led by Karsyn Rueth and Morgan Reinwand, each with 7 points. Loyal led 27-24 at the half.

The third quarter was another big one for the Crickets as they outscored the Greyhounds 20-8 to go up 44-35, led by Tatum Mayenschein's 8 points. Mayenschein also scored her 1000th career point in the game.

In the fourth quarter, Loyal got back into it and trailed by 4 late but Fall Creek made some late free throws and held on for the win. In fact, of the 9 points scored by Fall Creek in the quarter, 7 of them were from the line.

Rueth led all scorers with 19, Reinwand added 16 for Loyal. Mayenschein and Hohlfelder each had 13 to lead Fall Creek.

Fall Creek improved to 20-2 on the season while Loyal fell to 19-3.

The second place playoff game saw Neillsville get out to a 7-6 first quarter lead, but were outscored by Regis 7-4 in the second quarter and trailed 13-11 at the half.

In the third quarter, Haley Gibbons scored all 6 of her points and Regis stretched their lead to 23-16.

In the fourth quarter, Shae Brey had 8 of her game high 15 and Regis outscored Neillsville 12-10 to get the 9 point win.

Neillsville was led by Kayla Lis with 7 points.

Both teams now have 17-5 records heading into the WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament which gets underway next week.
