Neillsville Booster Club Boys Basketball Tournament Held

The Neillsville Booster Club held their annual "Youth Boys Basketball Tournament" on Sunday, February 15th with 26 area teams participating..

Forty-four games were contested throughout the day with the following champions noted.

In the 5th grade division, first place was captured by Chippewa Falls as they edged Loyal in the championship game. Taking home the bronze medals were Granton as they snuck by the Neillsville squad. Members of the local team who are coached by Butch Subke and Jessica Brown include: Eric Moltzen , Santana Subke, Michael Byrne, Kolin Schmitz, Andrew Brown, Logan Erickson, Zach Derfus, Tyler & Joey Vance and Alex Roman. Colby earned the consolation championship.

In the 6th grade division the Eau Claire Kings garnered the gold medals while Stratford and Greenwood picked up silver and bronze.

The 7th grade bracket saw the Eau Claire Kings reign as champion, with the squad from Neillsville placing second. Members of the team who are coached by Matt Diestler and Duane King include: Alex King, Nick Derfus, Monte Diestler, Isaac Weiers, Josiah Katcher, Cade Struensee, Dominique Elmhorst and Dawson Gerhardt. Gilman grabbed third by virtue of their victory over Cadott.

In the 8th grade bracket, Marathon was the undefeated squad at the end of the day with Osseo-Fairchild taking second and Greenwood third. Colby took home the consolation ribbons as they knocked off Loyal. The Neillsville boys ended their season slipping by Gilman to secure 7th place. Members of their team who were coached by Tim Voigt included: Hunter Hand, Joey Anason, Cole Hediger, Trevor Zurakowski, Luke Mayer, Ethan Kranz and Caden Ehlers.

The tournament, sponsored by the Booster Club was conducted with a tremendous amount of volunteer help and all proceeds are used to support youth sports at Neillsville Schools.
