Seubert's Last Second 3-Pointer Keeps Marathon Unbeaten

A last second three-pointer by Ethan Seubert gave Marathon a 51-48 overtime win over Neillsville to stay unbeaten on the season.

The game was close throughout as the teams played to a 12-12 first quarter tie.

Marathon had the edge in the second quarter, outscoring Neillsville 13-9 to take a 25-21 halftime lead. Preston Wirkus led the Red Raiders with 10 first half points.

In the third quarter, Neillsville outscored Marathon 13-9 sparked by a half court shot by Nolan Matson at the buzzer to tie the score at 34 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, both teams scored 8 points and the game went into overtime tied at 42.

The overtime was just as close as the rest of the game with each team scoring 6 points until the final buzzer when Seubert was able to hit the three and keep Marathon unbeaten.

Seubert led all scorers with 18 points, Zac Rihn added 13 and Wirkus had 10 points.

For Neillsville, Neal Matson led the way with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Devon Opelt had 11 points off the bench for the Warriors.

The Warriors out-rebounded the Red Raiders 26-24 but Neillsville also turned it over 17 times compared to 13 for Marathon.

Marathon improves to 15-0 while Neillsville falls to 8-6.
