Spencer Boys Take Over First In ECC

Spencer beat Neillsville 46-41 in boys basketball on Tuesday night to take over first place in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference.

The Rockets held a 12-9 advantage after one quarter with 6 different players getting in the scorebook.

In the second quarter the Rockets outscored the Warriors 10-7 led by Bobby Pilz who had 8 points including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to put Spencer up 22-16 at the break.

In the third quarter Neillsville's Sam Neville kept the Warriors in the game scoring 10 points in the quarter as Neillsville outscored Spencer by 1, but the Warriors still trailed by 5 heading to the fourth.

In the fourth it was the freethrow shooting of the Rockets was the difference. Spencer shot 9 for 10 from the line in the quarter including 4 for 4 from Ryan Busse. The Rockets finished 13 of 14 from the freethrow line.

Pilz led all scorers with 16 points, Calvin Lenz added 8 for Spencer. Neville led the Warriors with 12 points, while Nolan Matson added 7.

Spencer improves to 4-0 in the ECC and 5-0 overall while Neillsville falls to 4-1 in the ECC and 4-2 overall.
