Opelt Loses Close Match At Wartburg

Sunday, December 14th, 2014 -- 6:26 PM

Sophomore Phillip Opelt, ranked No. 5 at 133 pounds, lost a 7-5 decision to No. 8 Connor Campo as
No. 7 Wartburg downs the No. 12 Cornell College Rams, 26-6 on Saturday night.

Cornell came up short in several tight matches and fell 26-6 to four-time defending NCAA champion Wartburg in a top-15 wrestling battle Saturday night in Levick Arena.

The 12th-ranked Rams (4-5 overall) surrendered bonus points in only two matches, but wound up on the short end of eight of the 10 contested bouts against the seventh-ranked Knights (4-1).

The Rams return to the mat Tuesday for a 7 p.m. dual with Simpson (2-2) on Military Appreciation Night in the Small Multi-Sport Center. Cornell has taken the last 10 meetings against the Storm, including a 43-0 victory last December in Indianola.
