The Success Factor Plan Introduced To WIAA Board Of Control

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014 -- 6:31 AM

The Success Factor Plan was introduced to the WIAA Board of Control last week and it is designed to "level the playing field."

The proposal would provide an equation to determine whether a successful program, public or private, should move up a division.

Last year, a multiplier was proposed to the WIAA, which would've multiplied private school enrollment by 1.65 in order to try and level the competition. The multiplier proposal did not pass, but this new proposal is different.

The points proposal, presented by the WIAA Ad Hoc Committee to the Board of Control, would affect seven sports?baseball, softball, girls volleyball, boys soccer, girls soccer, boys basketball, and girls basketball. The proposal would give four (4) points to state champions, three (3) points to state runners-up, two (2) points to state semifinalists, and one (1) point to teams who reach the state quarterfinals. Teams which accumulate six or more points in a sport over a three-year span would move up one division in that sport only, contingent on program success.

It would apply to public and private programs.

The proposal will go through many committee meetings prior to coming before the Board of Control again in January. The Board of Control will then decide whether it will move forward to a vote by WIAA Membership in April. If it passes, the plan would go into effect by the start of the 2016-2017 school year.
