Tiger Girls Hockey Wins Opener

The Tiger Girls HS hockey cooperative, a team consisting of players from Black River Falls, Neillsville, Melrose-Mindoro and Tomah started their season with a 6-0 shutout over the Viroqua Blackhawks cooperative.The Tigers came out strong with plenty of scoring opportunities. BRF Senior Destiny Muir lead the team in points with 2 goals (one on a power play) and an assist. Neillsville freshman Baileigh Johnson scored 2 of the teams goals on assists from BRF Freshman Ashley Overlien and BRF Senior Riley Emerson. Other goals were scored by Mel-Min Freshman Khloe Spors (unassisted) and BRF Junior Kacie Suchanek on an assist from Destiny Muir. Viroqua Freshman goalie Ivy Shonka had 44 saves and the Tigers Freshman Goalie Mollie Lelonek (Tomah) had a shutout with 12 saves.
James Hizer is in his first season as head coach of the Tiger Girls Cooperative program. He is joined by Assistant Coach Maggie Mickelson, Volunteer Coach Chris Johnson and Volunteer Coach Kevin Gular.
The Tigers coop plays their home opener at Milt Lunda Memorial Arena in Black River Falls on November 28 at 4:30 v. the Western Wisconsin Stars.
