Girls Basketball: Neillsville Downs Assumption

The Neillsville girls basketball team evened their record at 1-1 after a 48-38 win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Tuesday night.Assumption got off to a 12-9 first quarter lead, led by Gena Grundhoffer who had 9 of those points.
Neillsville then outscored Assumption 10-7 in the second quarter to tie the score at the break 19-19. Chelsea Opelt led the way for the Warriors at the half with 10 points.
In the 3rd quarter Neillsville came out shooting as they hit three 3's led by Taylor Henchen who made two including one to end the quarter and put Neillsville up 34-28.
The Warriors then outscored Assumption 14-10 in the 4th quarter to win 48-38. The Warriors were 10-15 from the line in the 4th quarter with sophomore Mindy Schoengarth hitting on 5 of 6. Neillsville finished 19 of 27 from the line in the game.
Chelsea Opelt led Neillsville with 17 points and Taylor Henchen added 10. Gena Grundhoffer led the Royals with 17.
Assumption shot just 27% from the field while Neillsville shot 37%. The Warriors also out-rebounded the Royals 25-24.
Neillsville (1-1) will be at Auburndale (3-0) next Tuesday night.
