Neillsville's 70 Game ECC Win Streak Snapped In Loyal

The Neillsville Warrior girls basketball team's 70 game win streak in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference was snapped on Friday night in Loyal by the Greyhounds 44-31.

The Greyhounds got out to an 11-6 first quarter lead led by Karsyn Rueth who had 4 points. Loyal made 7 of 8 freethrows in the quarter.

In the second quarter Neillsville outscored the Greyhounds 11-8 and trailed 19-17 at the break. Neillsville only converted 8 of 13 from the line in the quarter while Loyal was 5 for 9. A total of 34 freethrows were attempted by both teams in the first half.

The third quarter was all Loyal as they outscored the Warriors 11-2 to open up an 11 point lead heading into the the final frame.

In the fourth, Loyal again outscored the Warriors 14-12 to make the final 44-31.

Loyal sophomore Morgan Reinwand led all scorers with 12, Missy Benz added 10 and Rueth had 9. No Neillsville players were in double figures as Dani Pfieffer led the way with 9 points, Chelsea Opelt had 8. Loyal finished 22-32 from the line while Neillsville was 12-19.

Neillsville (0-1) will host Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Tuesday night while Loyal (1-0) is at Gilman on Tuesday.
