Owen-Withee Wins 3rd State Football Title

The Owen-Withee Blackhawks are Division 7 State Champions after a 17-12 win over Pepin/Alma in the championship game on Thursday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.Owen-Withee finishes their season 13-1 as they win their 3rd football championship in their school's history. They also won titles in 1992 and 1999.
The Blackhawks got the scoring started on a 10 yard run by Austin Milliren with 5:53 to go in the first quarter. There would be no more scoring until with :09 seconds to go in the half Kole Karaba booted a 22 yd field goal to put Owen-Withee up 9-0 at the half.
The game remained 9-0 going into the fourth quarter until Bryce Niemi scored on a 15 yd run. The two-point conversion was good and Owen-Withee led 17-0.
But Pepin/Alma was not about to call it quits. With 4:55 left in the game they got on the board on a 6 yd pass from Sam Mueller to Ronnie Engstrand to make it 17-6. Then with 2:50 left the Eagles scored again, this time a 10 yd pass from Sam Mueller to Randall Engstrand. That made the score 17-12.
Owen-Withee was able to pick up some big first downs on the final drive to run out the clock and win by a 17-12 margin.

Owen-Withee had 292 total yards while Pepin/Alma had 246. Each team had 1 turnover.
This was the first D7 state championship game since the inaugural back in '02 to be decided by less than 12 points.
