Unbeaten Athens will battle unbeaten Owen-Withee this Friday night at Owen-Withee High School with the top spot in the Cloverwood Conference on the line...Both teams come in with records of 7-0. Athens is ranked No. 9 in the Small Divisions of the AP Poll while Owen-Withee is No. 10. In the Wissports.net Coaches Poll, Owen-Withee is No. 1 in Division 7 while Athens is ranked 5th in Division 6.
Both teams boast strong defenses as Owen-Withee has shut out 4 opponents while Athens has shut out 3.
Offensively both teams rely heavily on their running games. Athens averages 305 yards rushing a game while Owen-Withee averages 292.
This game will also feature the top running backs in the Cloverwood. Owen-Withee's Bryce Niemi leads the conference with 1,116 yards and 17 touchdowns while Athen's Lane Tessmer has rushed for 917 yards and also 17 touchdowns.
Last year Athens won 30-20.
