Neillsville Will Face Regis Running Attack Friday Night

Thursday, October 2nd, 2014 -- 1:48 PM

It's homecoming in Neillsville and the Warriors will face a balanced running attack from Eau Claire Regis in high school football on Friday night.

The Ramblers are led by Tommy Cicha who rushed for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns in their win over Spencer/Columbus last week. Cicha has 541 yards rushing on the season and 6 touchdowns. Noah Schober has 301 yards on the ground, Jaxon Brown 235 yds and Noel Ortiz 229 yards rushing, giving Regis multiple weapons.

Head coach Chris Poeschel of the Warriors said "One of the keys for us to have a chance at slowing them down a bit is to occupy those backside linemen so it is a challenge for them to pull to the playside. Our defensive linemen have to be very selfless this week and occupy Regis' offensive linemen to give our linebackers a chance to make plays at the line of scrimmage."

Regis has outscored their opponents 162-81 this season and have outgained their opponents 343 - 241 yds on average per game. The Ramblers have won 5 straight and clinched playoff eligibility with their win last week.

Neillsville meanwhile has lost 5 in a row since their opening week win over Prentice/Rib Lake, but they have played pretty good defense as of late and two of their losses were in double overtime. Derek Krejci leads the Warriors ground attack, running for 82 yards last week in the loss to Osseo-Fairchild. Krejci and the rest of the defense will look to step it up even one more notch this week.

It is homecoming week and coach Poeschel said he wants his players to enjoy it. "We encourage the kids to participate in the homecoming activities and enjoy the week. Your only get 4 homecoming weeks in your high school career. At the same time, we ask them to make wise decisions in enjoying the week. We're able to help eliminate distractions at practice by asking for two and a half hours of good, focused hard work and when football is done they can go back to enjoying the week."

Last year Regis won 23-7. Game time Friday night is 7 pm. You can hear it live on 92.7 FM WPKG
