Neillsville Falls In Double Overtime

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014 -- 6:12 AM

Neillsville and Cadott resumed their suspended game from last Friday yesterday and Cadott prevailed in double overtime 23-22.

It was Cadott's first win since 2011. Neillsville evened their record on the season to 1-1.

The game, which was suspended on Friday due to thundershowers, was picked up in the second quarter with Neillsville leading 9-0.

Neillsville got on the board late in the 2nd quarter on a 54 yard pass play from Jake Kunze to Devon Opelt to make the score 16-0. Cadott however was able to get down the field and on the scoreboard before the half on a 23 yard field goal by Kaeden Thom to make the score 16-3.

The second half was all Cadott as Ezra Michael threw two touchdown passes including one in the 3rd quarter and 1 in the 4th quarter to tie the score at 16-16.

Neither team could score in the first overtime. Neillsville had the ball first in the second overtime and after a 21 yard pass from Kunze to Nolan Matson the Warriors had the ball at the Hornet 3 where Jake Waltemate scored. The extra point was blocked and Neillsville led 22-16.

Cadott struggled with the possession in the second overtime and were faced with a 4th and goal from the 23 when Michael lofted one into the endzone and Brett McChesney hauled it in for the score. The extra point was good and Cadott had a 23-22 win.

There were 11 total turnovers in the game. 6 by Cadott and 5 by Neillsville.

Michael finished, unofficially, with 351 yards passing going 36 for 57. McChesney had 20 receptions for over 200 yards for Cadott. Neillsville's Nick May led all rushers 74 yards on 20 carries.

Neillsville will host Spencer/Columbus this Friday night at D.E. Peter Athletic Field in Neillsville at 7 pm.
