Neillsville Football Team Wins In Week One
Monday, August 25th, 2014 -- 10:08 AM
The Neillsville football team got their 2014 season off to a good start on Friday beating Prentice/Rib Lake 7-0.The Warriors came into the season having won only 1 game in the last two seasons and a new head coach Chris Poeschel said "It was nice to start the season off in the win column."
The Warriors got off to good start taking the opening kickoff down the field and scoring on a 15 yard run by Nick May. May finished with 108 yards, unoffically, on the ground. Neillsville looked to increase their lead after an interception by Nolan Matson put them on the Prentice/Rib Lake 1 yard line, but a fumble on the next play gave the ball back to the Hawks. Neillsville finished with 6 turnovers in the game, Prentice/Rib Lake had 4.
"We were able to move the ball in spurts for the rest of the game, but 6 turnovers crippled any further scoring attempts. Our offense put our defense in some pretty bad spots throughout the night. But time and again the defense answered the bell, holding Rib Lake/Prentice to 79 total yards." said coach Poeschel.
He said that they will address the turnovers this week in practice and get ready to face an upstart Cadott Hornets program. Cadott lost to Osseo-Fairchild 34-21 on Friday.
You can hear the Neillsville at Cadott game this Friday night live on 92.7 FM WPKG starting at 7 pm.
