Neillsville Youth Baseball & Softball Awards Night

The Neillsville Recreation Department held their annual "Awards Picnic" for youth summer baseball & softball on Monday, July 14th at the Neillsville Middle School.

Over 100 boys and girls received certificates for their participation in either Little League Baseball, Junior Slowpitch Softball, or Fastpitch Softball. First place winners in all the leagues also were awarded individual trophies. All coaching staffs also picked a "Most Improved Player" and a "Major Leaguer Award" (based on excellence in attitude and leadership) winner who were presented with specially designed certificates as well.

The Little League honored the Rockies and Giants as Co-champions as they each earned a sparkling 8-3-1 record. Members of the Rockies squad who were coached by Kevin Erickson and Bryan Dux included: Bryce, Logan & Dante Erickson, Dylan Voigt, Gage Ludovic, Isaac Berger, Luke Dux, Kane Johnson and Derek Zschernitz. For the Giants who were lead by Scott Swita and Terry Bryne, their roster included: Evan Gilbert, Wesley & Eastan Swita, Ian & Micah Zoschke, Santana Subke, Jacob Morrell, Connor Seif, Michael Byrne and Joshua Drinka. Placing third were the Cubs who were skippered by Keith Loberg and Kevin Schmitz while the Brewers placed fourth in the highly contested league. Henry Berry and Scott Uptergrove were their coaches.

The Junior Slowpitch Softball League crowned the Orioles as champions with a 8-3-1 record. Members of the hard hitting team included: Katie Kunze, Lizzy Springer, Jayda Harris, Emma Vine, Taylor Boon, Bella Opelt, Emily Hanson, Riley Voigt, Terren Stockheimer and Emma Moseley. Coaching the champs were Missy Stockheimer and Sunni Opelt. Finishing as the runner-up were the Falcons who were lead by Ricky Rochester and Brian Fischer. The Eagles coached by Dennis, Shawn and Aaron Huth along with the Hornets coached by Kari & Luke Mayer finished in a tie for third with 5-7 records.

The winners of the "Most Improved Player" in the various leagues were: Emma Vine, Melissa Pohle, Kylie Boyer, Libny Castillo, Derek Zschernitz, Joshua Drinka, Keeghan Anding and Austin Gilles.


Selected as winners of the prestigious ?Major Leaguer Award? were Logan Erickson, Taytor Lowry, Ian Zoschke, Dayne Loberg, Lizzy Springer, Vanessa Zickert, Olivia Friemoth and Riana Huth.

The Girls Fastpitch Softball teams were cited for their accomplishments as well. The 10U, 12U, 14U & Varsity groups were all recognized as were their coaches; Robin & Cassie Harder, Paul Klein, Carrie & Corrtney Schmidt, Taylor Gleisner, Missy Stockheimer and Sunni Opelt. They have competed in the Neillsville Booster Club tournament as well as playing league competition in Marshfield and Greenwood.

Following the awards ceremony, refreshments were enjoyed by all!
