WIAA Member Schools Vote To Delay Multiplier

Wednesday, April 16th, 2014 -- 10:53 AM

Today is the WIAA's Annual Meeting, and this year, members were set to make a big decision that would affect private schools. A petition signed by 66 different schools proposed a 1.65 enrollment multiplier to all private, religious, and independent schools. However, prior to a vote on the private school Multiplier proposal, a motion was made to send the topic to committee. The motion to send to committee was passed by a 352-77 vote. What this means is there will not be a vote on the Multiplier today, and no Multiplier will be instituted for the 2014-15 season.

Another amendment to the Constitution on the agenda was to remove the authority and responsibility for conference formation and realignment from the Board of Control and return that responsibility back to the membership and local control. That motion was defeated 400-26.

One proposed amendment to the Bylaws would require all coaches, including assistants, to attend the sport rules meeting or view the rules video if they are offered specific to the sport they coach. The current language requires only the head coach to attend a rules meeting or view the video. That proposal passed by vote of 292-131.
