Two WIAC Teams Earn NCAA Men's Basketball Invitations

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater have received invitations to the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship and will host first and second round games March 7-8.UW-Stevens Point earned an automatic bid into the 62-team field by winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament title, while UW-Whitewater was awarded one of 20 at-large bids. This marks the seventh consecutive year that the WIAC has had at least two teams receive NCAA men's basketball invitations.
The Pointers (26-1) will have their first round game against Marian University (Wis.) (22-6), while also hosting St. Olaf College (Minn.) (22-5) and Central College (Iowa) (20-7). UW-Stevens Point is making the 13th NCAA appearance in program history and eighth straight, including national titles in 2004, 2005 and 2010.
UW-Whitewater (23-4) will meet University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) (16-11) in the first round, while hosting University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (22-5) and Augustana College (Ill.) (19-7). The Warhawks won national crowns in 1984, 1989 and 2012, and are making their league-high 19th NCAA appearance, including sixth in the last seven years.
