7 Game ECC Win Streak Ends In Augusta

The Neillsville boys basketball team saw their 7 game Eastern Cloverbelt win streak come to end on Tuesday night in Augusta 52-38.Neillsville fell behind early and could never recover. They trailed 16-9 after one period and then 30-20 at the half. The Warriors started to mount a comeback in the third quarter getting the lead cut down to as many as 3 but trailed 38-33 going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Augusta made their free-throws when they had to going 9 for 12 and Neillsville struggled to put the ball in the hoop and they were outscored in the quarter 14-5 to make the final 52-38.
Matt Grottke led the Warriors with 11 points. Bradley Grunewald had 13 to lead Augusta.
Neillsville falls out of first place in the ECC at 11-3, 12-5 overall while Augusta improved to 8-5 in the conference and 8-8 overall.
