Neillsville Girls Improve to 12-0

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014 -- 10:35 AM

It wasn't a pretty win, but the Neillsville girls basketball team improved to 12-0 on the season with a 45-20 victory over the Loyal Greyhounds on Tuesday night.

The Warriors, who came in ranked No. 1 in Division 3 in both the AP and Wissports.net/Coaches polls, led 10-5 after one period and then held the Greyhounds to just 3 second quarter points to take a 22-8 lead into the locker room. However, in the first half Neillsville committed numerous turnovers, shot only 2 for 7 from the line and their leading scorer, Jenny Lindner committed 3 fouls and scored just one point. Katelyn Crothers picked up the slack with 10 first half points.

In the third quarter, Lindner had a couple of 3's and Neillsville led 33-12 going into the final quarter where they outscored Loyal 12-8 to come away with the 61st straight win in ECC play 45-20.

Crothers led all scorers with 14 points, Lindner finished with 7. Freshmen, Karsyn Rueth and Morgan Reinwand led Loyal with 7 points each.

Neillsville is now 9-0 in the Eastern Cloverbelt and will host Augusta on Friday while Loyal drops to 7-3 in conference play and 9-3 overall. The Greyhounds are at Gilman on Friday.
