Neillsville Win Tightens Up ECC Race

The Neillsville Warrior boys basketball team beat Owen-Withee on Thursday night 56-47 to tighten up the race in the Eastern Cloverbelt.

Neillsville led 10-6 after one quarter and then outscored the Hawks in the 2nd quarter 10-3 to take a 20-9 halftime lead.

Owen-Withee came out in the third quarter with some intensity and full court pressure defense that allowed them to outscore Neillsville 20-15 and cut the Warrior's lead to 6 going into the final frame.

Freethrows were the name of the game in the 4th quarter as Neillsville went to the line 17 times in the quarter but made only 10. Albert Goerlitz of Owen-Withee was 11 -13 from the line himself in the final quarter, finishing with a game high 23 points. Neillsville outscored the Hawks in the 4th quarter 21-18 for the 9 point win.

Neillsville improved to 7-2 in the ECC while Owen-Withee fell to 6-2. Spencer leads the way at 7-1 while Marshfield Columbus sits at 6-2.

Tonight, Neillsville is at Gilman (2-6), Marshfield Columbus is at Loyal (1-6), Granton (0-8) is at Owen-Withee, and Augusta (4-4) is at Spencer.
