Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021 -- 12:32 PM
Neillsville Senior, Liz Jorgensen, a member of the Black River Falls Co-op hockey team, was recognized as one of four state finalists for the Rachel Kenyon, unsung hero award, voted on by WIAA girl's head coaches and presented by Wisconsin Prep Hockey.
This award recognizes a player that, in Rachel Kenyon's own words, "To me the "unsung hero award" goes to someone who's not always on the score sheet or recognized but contributes just as much to the victories as the girls who are. Everyone on the team has a role or job and everyone must do their job for the team to be successful. I didn't need to score goals, we had plenty of other girls to do that. My job was to not let the other team score, keep the puck moving up ice and get it to the girls who would put it in the back of the net. "
Jorgensen has committed to an NCAA Division III offer from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, to continue her hockey career.
The awards were presented on YouTube on Friday, Feb. 26....https://www.wisconsinprephockey.net/news_article/show/1148643
