Holmgren Among Candidates For HOF

The Associated Press is reporting, Mike Holmgren, who helped rebuild the Green Bay Packers into one of the NFL?s elite teams and won a Super Bowl during the 1990s, is among 16 first-time modern-era candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.According to the AP, others who are first-time candidates for induction are quarterback Trent Green, running backs Shaun Alexander and Warrick Dunn, receiver Marvin Harrison, tackles Willie Anderson and Walter Jones, linebackers Derrick Brooks, Tedy Bruschi, Willie McGinest and Zach Thomas, safety Rodney Harrison, cornerbacks Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain, and coaches Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden.
The 2014 list has 89 players, 16 coaches and 21 contributors. Besides Holmgren, three others have strong ties to the Packers: safety LeRoy Butler, receiver Sterling Sharpe and former general manager Ron Wolf, nominated as a contributor. All four also are members of the Packers Hall of Fame.
The hall?s Selection Committee will narrow the list to 25 semifinalists in late November, then to 15 finalists in early January.
Former Raiders punter Ray Guy and former Atlanta and Philadelphia defensive end Claude Humphrey are the senior nominees and will be considered along with the 15 modern-era finalists.
