Express Pitcher Signs With Mariners

Over 80 scouts were in attendance at the Northwoods League All-Star game on Tuesday when the North squad defeated the South by a score of 7-5.Eau Claire native and current Eau Claire Express pitcher Tyler Sparger took advantage of the showcase throwing a scoreless inning that included two strikeouts. Last night he was signed a Major League contract with the Seattle Mariners.
Sparger has appeared in 13 games for the Express this season with a 1.14 ERA and 6 saves. He will stay with the team until Friday and then fly out to the Mariner's Spring Training home in Arizona.
