UW-Stevens Point Volleyball Coach Resigns

Thursday, May 30th, 2013 -- 10:08 AM

After 12 years at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, head volleyball coach Stacey White has announced she will be stepping down.

White, the back-to-back Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Coach of the Year, will be returning to the Minneapolis area in order to be closer to family.

?My experience as head coach and lecturer at UWSP these last 12 years have been very enjoyable,? said White. ?It was a very difficult decision to resign, especially with the programs recent success. In the end it came down to having the opportunity to move closer to family."

White tallied 212 wins in her 12 seasons with the Pointers and led the team to a share of the conference regular season title and their first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 30 years after the 2011 season. She again led the Pointers to the postseason in 2012 after winning an outright WIAC regular season title.

"I know this was a very difficult decision for Stacey,? said Director of Athletics Daron Montgomery. ?We are all proud of what the Pointers have accomplished the past two seasons. Clearly she leaves the program on solid footing for the future.?

?I would like to thank (former athletic director) Frank O'Brien and (current athletic director) Daron Montgomery for their support and the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful athletic department,? said White.

A national search for White?s replacement will begin immediately.
