Neillsville Advances To Regional Final

Friday, May 24th, 2013 -- 10:38 AM

The Neillsville girl's softball team needed two runs in the bottom of the 7th to get by Stanley-Boyd 11-10 on Thursday to advance to the Regional Final today.

In a game that got rained out once and then suspended due to rain, it came down to the bottom of 7th before Neillsville pulled out the win.

The game was picked up on Thursday in the bottom of the 3rd inning with Neillsville leading 4-3. The Warriors went on to score two more runs to make it a 6-3 game after 3.

Neillsville scored two more runs in the 4th to make it 8-3.

Then came the top of the 6th where Stanley-Boyd pounded out 6 hits and scored 7 runs to take a 10-8 lead. Neillsville came back with one run in their half of the sixth to cut the lead to 10-9. But for the Warriors the big story in the 6th was an apparent ankle injury suffered by Jenny Lindner sliding into third. She did not return.

In the 7th, Stanley-Boyd got a hit but left that runner stranded. In the bottom of the inning, Neillsville's Jenna Pavlac had a one hit to center then Chelsea Opelt walked. Cat Nemitz then hit a fly ball to left that dropped in and scored Pavlac to tie the game at 10. After a walk to Sami Larrabee to load the bases, Katelyn Crothers lined a single to center to score the winning run and make the final 11-10.

Jenny Lindner led the Warriors going 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored before the injury. Taylor Gleisner was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's and two runs scored. The Warriors finished with 17 hits.

Neillsville will now host Eau Claire Regis in the Regional Final today at 5 pm. You can hear it live on 1370 AM WCCN.
