Spring Sports Udate, Take Two

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013 -- 10:53 AM

Weather permitting, the Neillsville boys baseball and girls softball conference seasons and boys golf season may get underway next week.

The Neillsville baseball team is scheduled to host Colby next Thursday which would be their first conference game, and the conference baseball schedule will be a 9 game season with every team in Eastern Cloverbelt playing each other only once. Any games that can be played before April 25th will be counted as non-conference games. Neillsville is scheduled to play Spencer next Tuesday, the 23rd.

As far as girl?s softball, the games are cancelled up to this Friday, but the schedule for next week has not been affected yet. The Neillsville girl?s softball season will tentatively start on April 23rd against Spencer. Anything that was scheduled before the end of this week will be scheduled as doubleheaders later.

This of course is all depending on the fact that fields dry out and the weather gets better. There are some built-in make up dates in May, but Mr. Craig says some of those dates have already been used from games that have already been cancelled. Some games may have to be scheduled in the week leading up to the state tournaments in May. The state girls softball tournament starts a month from this Tuesday, May 16th and the state baseball tournament starts on May 24th which means a lot of games in the next month will have to scheduled and that means a number of games each week.

The boys golf and the outdoor track and field seasons have also been affected by the weather.

Neillsville's golf team was supposed to start on April 8th. They do have a match scheduled for April 23rd at Hickory Hills.

The boys and girls track teams were to have an outdoor meet today at Spencer but that has been cancelled. They will host an indoor meet this Thursday at the Fieldhouse with Stanley-Boyd, Loyal and Granton coming in. The track teams will also be at UW LaCrosse for a meet this Saturday, weather permitting, that is hosted by LaCrosse Aquinas. On Monday they are scheduled to be a Black River Falls for an outdoor meet.
