WIAC Schools Rank High In Learfield Sports Directors? Cup

Five schools from the WIAC are ranked in the top 24 of the 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors? Cup standings following the completion of the winter sports season.

UW-Whitewater leads the conference mentions, ranking seventh with 541.50 points, while UW-Eau Claire is 10th with 482.50, UW-La Crosse 13th with 434, UW-Oshkosh 19th with 375 and UW-Stevens Point 24th with 318.

Williams College (Mass.) leads the standings with 785.75 points, while Middlebury College (Vt.) is second with 665.75.

The standings recognize the best NCAA Division III overall athletics programs in the country. A total of 289 institutions earned a spot in the winter standings.

Nine of the winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following schools from the WIAC capturing titles: women?s indoor track and field ? WI Oshkosh; men?s indoor track and field ? WI La Crosse; and men?s ice hockey ? WI Eau Claire.

The Learfield Sports Directors? Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution?s finish in up to 18 sports - nine women?s and nine men?s.

The first Division III spring standings will be released Thursday, May 23.
