UW-Stevens Point's Barber Named WBCA National Player of the Year

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point?s Sam Barber has been named the 2013 State Farm?/Women?s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Player of the Year.She accepted the award at the third annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday in New Orleans, held in conjunction with the NCAA? Women's Final Four?.
A senior guard from Schofield, Wis. (D.C. Everest), Barber earned WBCA All-America First Team honors earlier this season and claimed the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year award for the second straight year.
Barber started all 30 games for the Pointers, averaging a team-high 19.1 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds.
Barber is the third player in WIAC history to earn the WBCA Player of the Year honor, joining UW-Oshkosh?s Wendy Wangerin (1996) and former Pointer Amanda Nechuta (2005).
