Neillsville Boys Down Marshfield Columbus

The Neillsville boys basketball team won their 10th in a row as they downed Marshfield Columbus Tuesday night 40-37 to improve to 16-1 on the season.The win also puts the Warriors up by a half game over Augusta for first place in the ECC at 14-1. Neillsville and Augusta will play each other Friday night at the Fieldhouse in Neillsville.
On Tuesday night Neillsville got out to a 7-2 first quarter lead only to have the Columbus Dons battle back and tie the game at halftime 19-19. Marshfield Columbus then was able to get their shots to fall in the third quarter and took a 29-25 lead into the 4th.
In the 4th quarter the Warrior defense took over allowing the Dons just one 3-point field goal, the other 5 points came on free throws. Offensively, Neillsville could have had a much bigger lead down the stretch but they hit on only 5 of 14 from the free throw line in the final frame. Matt and Michael Dux did hit two 3's in the quarter as Neillsville outscored the Dons 15-8 to make the final 40-37.
Matt Dux led all scorers with 13 pts., 8 of those in the 4th quarter. Derrick Green led Marshfield Columbus with 10 points.
