Edward Selz

EDWARD D. SELZ, age 88, of Cottage Grove, WI, passed away at Drumlin Reserve in Cottage Grove on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, September 11, 2026 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal, WI, with Rev. Matthew Szymanski officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30am until time of service. Burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 12th at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in the Town of Mentor, Clark County, rural Fairchild, WI.
Edward Daniel Selz was born on October 26,1937 in Eau Claire, WI, the youngest of 12 children to Herman J. and Justina (Bergmann) Selz. He was raised on the family farm and received his education from Fairchild High School graduating in 1955. Ed then enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1955, was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA, and served until his honorable discharge in 1958. He returned home and was later united in marriage to Frances Y. Schesel on August 20,1960 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Stanley, WI. He was a partner owner and worked at Selz Farm, Inc. from 1960 to 1972. Ed and his family moved to Loyal, WI in 1972, where he owned and operated Selzlan Farm, a registered Holstein dairy, until his retirement. They resided in Loyal until moving to Cottage Grove in 2024. In 2024, Ed was an honoree of Dream Flight ( a non-profit organization that honors United States Military veterans), where he took to the skies in a fully restored Boeing Stearman open cockpit biplane.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church for more than 50 years, was a long-time member of the county, state, and national Registered Holstein Associations, and served as chairman of the Kow Kountry Klassic for 10 years; an annual Registered Holstein purebred sale.
Ed had many interests but especially enjoyed bowling at Hills Brother’s Bowling Alley in Loyal during his younger years, traveling to several destinations including, Hawaii, Alaska, Italy, New York City, and England, and watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and The Price is Right.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Frances; his children: Mark (Diane), David (Kathy), Rick (Peggy), Anne (Marty) Schwan, Robert (fiancé Katey Walker); his daughter-in-law, Vicki Selz; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Selz; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven; and his siblings: Herman, William, Werner, Philomene, Mary Agnes, Germaine, Eileen, Clarita, John, and Margaret.
