Cheryl Handke

Cheryl Handke, age 71, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and care that touched everyone she met.

Born on October 16, 1953, Cheryl had a gift for making the world around her more beautiful—whether it was through the vibrant blooms in her garden, the jars of perfectly canned vegetables lining her shelves, or the flowers she lovingly arranged for countless weddings. If you were lucky enough to know Cheryl, chances are she baked you something delicious, whether you asked for it or not.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending time outdoors, getting lost in laughter-filled shopping trips and UTV rides with her best friend Janet, and cheering on her beloved Packers and Brewers like it was her job.

Family meant everything to Cheryl, especially the special bond she shared with her great-nephew Zachary and his wife Heidi. She happily stepped in as pet-sitter extraordinaire to their dog Charlie and cats Vince and Clyde any time they needed her, spoiling them like furry royalty.

Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Louise Handke (Sternitzky), and her older brother Iyron Handke. She is survived by her siblings Eldon (Donna) Handke, Laura Lee Zank, Elmer (Maureen) Handke, and Buster (Casey) Handke. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who were truly family in her heart.

Cheryl's warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her love lives on in the gardens she nurtured, the recipes she shared, and the hearts of all who loved her.

A Celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.
