Edward Genteman

Edward "Ed" Genteman, age 92, of Neillsville, WI, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at North Shore Healthcare in Marshfield, WI. 

Edward was born December 19, 1932 in Chicago, IL to William, Sr. and Mary (Janciga) Genteman. Ed grew up in Chicago until his parents moved to a farm in the Township of Levis, WI in 1946 when he was 13 years old.  He attended school at Burley Elementary School in Chicago, Meadow View School Township of Levis, and Neillsville High School. Afterwards, Ed worked at various jobs in Neillsville and served in the National Guard until he enlisted in the Army in 1955.   He served in Korea where he was assigned to the 42nd Engineering Detachment as a heavy equipment operator.   After his honorable discharge in 1958 he came back home to help his father on the family farm.  He later worked in McHenry, IL and in Milwaukee, WI. 

Ed was united in marriage on July 8, 1961 to Marian Adamec in Neillsville, WI at St. Mary's Catholic Church.   In 1963, Ed and Marian purchased a farm in the Township of Levis where they farmed together and raised their five children. In 1961, Ed started working at Nelson Muffler and after 35 years he retired in 1996.  He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as deer hunting, fishing, building bird houses, and other wood working projects. 

Ed was a member of the Neillsville American Legion Post 73 where he served in the color guard.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville and the Knights of Columbus.

Ed is survived by his wife Marian of 63 years and their children; Gary (Mary Jo) Genteman, Duane Genteman, Cherri (Brian) Hohnke, Sheila Genteman and Kay Genteman; and two grandchildren Zachary Genteman and Jenna Genteman. He is further survived by his brother Thomas as well as many nieces and nephews.   He is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary; and brothers William, Jr. and Robert.

Visitation will be at Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville on Wednesday, February 5th, from 5 to 7 pm with the rosary said at 6:45 pm.  Visitation again on Thursday, February 6th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville at 9:30 am followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 am.  Services will be officiated by Father Gregory Michaud. Interment will be immediately afterward at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 73. Pallbearers will be David Genteman, James Genteman, Peter Genteman, David Adamec, Zachary Genteman, and Jenna Genteman.
