Darrell Poeschel
Darrell Norbert Poeschel, 87, died peacefully on May,15, 2023 at The Neillsville Retirement Community in Neillsville, Wisconsin.
Darrell was born on May 28, 1935 to Walter and Christina Poeschel in Nelson, Wisconsin. He was the second of four children. He grew up on the home farm until he started working for the Farmers Store Company at age 16. He married Myrna Richardson on July 10, 1956 and they started on their family of six children. He worked his way into management holding positions in Osseo, Greenwood, Stanley, and Eau Claire. Neillsville became home in 1977 when they bought the old Farmers Store and operated The D&M Department Store. In November of 1985 they sold the business and he went to work for Russell’s where he was a presence for another twenty years. He tried to retire once, but missed the interaction with his customers and went back after a short recess. He was in his late seventies when he finally retired for good.
During his younger years Darrell worked many hours while Myrna raised the children, but as time passed and the kids grew older, he was able to enjoy his time. He was a proud member of the Neillsville Rotary Club where he served as the secretary for a couple decades. He enjoyed playing golf, cribbage, and dirty clubs, watching the Packers and Brewers on TV, and attending grandkids sporting events. He was always open to having a beer when visitors stopped by. Family and faith were the most important things in his life and he instilled a great work ethic and moral foundation to his kids and grandkids.
Darrell will be missed by his children Nick Poeschel and Spring Fleming, Marshfield; Dewey and Kory Poeschel, Neillsville; Esta and Mike Mattice, Eau Claire; Amy and Robin Harder, Neillsville; Bill and Bev Poeschel, Neillsville; and Tonya and Jerry Pfeiffer, Neillsville; Grandchildren Tyler, Dani, Allie Pfeiffer, Kendie Friemoth and Sammie Grap; Sarah, Courtney, Justin, and Chris Poeschel; Derek Harder, Cassie Symons and Nicki Voss; Jodi and Jess Mattice; Logan Poeschel, Kelsey Klein and Dillon Poeschel; Tucker, Kane and Stone Johnson; and Jeff Barum as well as all their significant others; 11 great grandchildren: and one great great grandson. He is further survived by his sister, Norma Crawford, and in-laws Linda Rudy, Ethel Richardson, Rich and Lou Richardson and many nieces and nephews.
