Lorraine “Sue” C. Sladek

Lorraine (Sue) Caroline Sladek, 87 of McFarland WI. formerly a long-time resident of Granton, WI died on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at UW Health University Hospital, Madison WI.

Sue was born in rural Pittsville, WI on April 10, 1935, to Otto and Mary (Kreitlow) Grubofski.  She was their first daughter and was part of a large family which included 12 siblings.  

She was united in marriage to Donald Sladek on October 1, 1955, in Pittsville.

After her marriage, Sue worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Marshfield Clinic while working on their family farm in Granton and raising three children.  She also did seasonal work for Figi’s in Marshfield.

She enjoyed watching and cheering on the Packers, listening to Country & Western music and Polka dancing at the Silver Dome Ballroom in Neillsville.  While on the farm, she enjoyed growing vegetables in her large garden.

After living on the farm for over 40 years, she and Don sold the farm and moved across the road.  They enjoyed their rural surroundings, their grandchildren and visiting their daughter in Alabama.  A few years after Don’s death, she moved to McFarland to be closer to her son.  

She is survived by her sons, Donald (Renee) Sladek of Marshfield, Dan (Kathy) Sladek of McFarland; grandchildren, Wendy (Ryan) Silcox, Jamie (Tom) Campbell, Rebecca Sladek, Lauren (Kyle) Cheramy, Colin (Marissa Bekken) Sladek; great-grandchildren, Jayson Dahlby, Chloe Knox, Tyler Baldauf, Bailee Wettstein, Preston and Everly Cheramy. 

She is also survived by her siblings: Carl Grubofski of Belvidere, IL, Fred Grubofski of Pittsville, Richard Grubofski of Marshfield, Otto (Mary) Grubofski of Wisconsin Rapids, Larry Grubofski of Wisconsin Rapids, John Grubofski of Marshfield, Ida Flewellen of Marshfield, and Laura Brue of Loyal. She is further survived by sister-in-law Mildred Grap of Neillsville and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald, daughter Dawn, grandson Keith, sister Bertha Drackley, brothers:  Otto Jr., Clarence, Wallace Grubofski; brothers-in-law: Leo Flewellen, Dexter Brue, Richard Drackley, Frederick Grap.

A private graveside service will be held at the Neillsville City Cemetery.
