Jean Maureen Meier, age 83, of Neillsville, WI, devoted wife of 64 years, loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow, passed away, Saturday, September 11, 2021 in the Emergency Room of the Marshfield Medical Center in Neillsville.

Jean Maureen Pettit was born on March 8, 1938 in Winner, SD the daughter of Norbert and Agnes (Deleski) Pettit. Jean and her family lived in Winner, SD until 1950, when they moved to Neillsville. Maureen graduated from Neillsville High School in 1956. Later that year, she was united in marriage to Wayne E. Meier on October 20, 1956 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Neillsville. This year would have marked their 65th wedding anniversary. She worked as a waitress at the Arbutus Café, and as a telephone operator at Badger Telephone. She then began a career at the Memorial Medical Center, first as a ward clerk, then as a nurse’s aide before eventually becoming office manager. Her career, at the hospital, lasted for 32 years before she retired in 1990.

Maureen was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was passionate about her faith and showed this devotion and passion by volunteering her time with Catholic Financial. She was a branch secretary/treasurer for Catholic Financial for many years. During those years she raised many funds for those in need.

Maureen’s biggest passion after her family was her flowers, gardens, and canning. “Pa” and “Ma” would take trips to the “land” and admire all the wonderful gardens they had been blessed with. One of her other volunteer projects was the Hospital Auxiliary or as we all knew it as “The Mall”

Each week, before the Covid-19 outbreak, she would go to the nursing home and paint fingernails. She always had time for everyone, from her family and friends to anyone she met on the street. She was blessed with a caring and giving heart. She will be sadly missed by all but never forgotten as she will live on in the hearts of all she has touched.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne, three children, Debbie (Mike) Schoengarth of Neillsville, WI, Sharon (Bob) Wilsmann of Neillsville, WI and Steve (Lisa) Meier of Marshfield, WI, eight grandchildren, Casey (Kristi) Schoengarth, Katie (Randy) Elmhorst, Rebecca (Jeff) Ciezki, Timothy (Terri) Wilsmann, Stephanie (Jordan) Donnerbauer, Alexandra (Ethan) Meier, Katrina Krueger and Nicholas D’Acquisto, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers, John (Janie) Pettit of Neillsville, WI and David (Linda) Pettit of Morton, IL, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jim, her mother-in-law, Marie Meier, her father-in-law, Edward Meier and a sister-in-law, Arlene Gilinski.
