(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A former Wausau therapist accused of sexual contact with a patient has reached a plea deal with the state for amended charges, avoiding prison time.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Aaron Mielke entered a no contest plea for felony sexual exploitation by a therapist and misdemeanor battery on Wednesday.
He was then sentenced to 12.5 years in prison, including 7.5 years incarcerated and five years on extended supervision. The sentence was then imposed and stayed, meaning he will not serve prison time if he completes 7.5 years of probation. He was also sentenced to six months in the Marathon County Jail for the battery count.
He was given 30 days to report to jail to begin the sentence. The 54-year-old is accused of touching the woman inappropriately after a session, saying he would be “thinking about her all day,” then slapping her backside as she left his office. Mielke had been scheduled for a three-day trial beginning today, but that was replaced at the last minute with a 9 AM plea and sentencing hearing.
Terms of his probation include a full no-contact order with the victim and treatment or counseling as deemed appropriate by his agent. He will also register as a sex offender for the next 15 years and must surrender his license to practice therapy.
Charges against him originally included felony sexual assault and sexual exploitation by a therapist. Mielke had worked at a treatment center specializing in opioid addiction.
