Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce Warning of Another Scam
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025 -- 1:00 PM

The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce is warning of scams targeting businesses and they want to make everyone aware of a recent incident in the area.
A local business was contacted by a caller claiming to be part of a law enforcement agency conducting an investigation. The caller convinced staff to withdraw funds from the till and convert them into digital currency resulting in financial loss. This is an important reminder: even when someone claims to be from a trusted source like law enforcement, verification is key.
If you or your staff receive a suspicious call:
- Hang up and contact the agency directly using a verified number.
- Ask for a callback number and alert your manager or business owner immediately to verify legitimacy.
Additionally, now is a great time to remind your team:
- Never share employee information over the phone unless the identity of the caller can be confirmed.
Keeping open communication and training staff on these red flags can help protect your business from falling victim to these types of scams.
