Wausau Economic Development Committee Approves Completion Extension for Foundry on 3rd Development

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Wausau Economic Development Committee approved an 8.5-week extension to the completion deadline for the Foundry on 3rd development at the former Wausau Center Mall site.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Economic Development Manager Andrew Lynch says T Wall Enterprises has run into complications beyond its control.
That includes countertops that were held up in port thanks to complications from tariff negotiations. Production issues have also delayed bricks for the outer walls.
Lynch says those can have domino effects on the completion of other elements. “One item being held up can delay other tradeswork. It can set them back a few weeks, but they are making really good progress but I think they just need some cushion to the final competition date.”
The proposal pushes the completion date from November 1st to December 31st. Lynch says that doesn’t mean the finished product couldn’t be delivered somewhere in between. “They want to have one final change [to] this date.”
Lynch also presented the committee with a brief walk-through video from Mayor Doug Diny’s visit to the site two weeks ago, noting that some of the residential units are nearly complete, others have “punch list” items that need to be checked off. “In construction, it’s always those little things at the end that seem to take a long time [to finish.]”
Nick Patterson of T Wall also addressed the committee, noting that they’ve already signed a fitness studio for the first-floor retail space. They also received interest from a hair salon just before Tuesday’s meeting, and other retailers have also reached out.
Many of the residential units have also been spoken for. T Wall plans to have a mobile office on the property later this summer to assist with leasing and other inquiries.
The vote narrowly passed 3-2 with Alders Gary Gisselman and Vicki Tierney voting no. Gisselman prefaced his vote by saying he has voted no for the project at every turn, and would continue to do so. The full Council will consider the change next Tuesday.
